STUDY OVERVIEW

STUDY INTRODUCTION

The majority of COVID-19 deaths in Canada have occurred in residents of long-term care, assisted living and retirement homes. COVID-19 has had and continues to have a significant impact on these homes in Canada. It is thus important for us to continue expanding our understanding of infection and immunity in residents of these homes. Through collaborating with residents, staff, and essential caregivers, our research team will work to contribute to creating a greater understanding of COVID in long-term care and how long-term care residents can be kept safe and healthy in the future.

BENEFITS OF ENROLLING

Community Benefits

This study will help the scientific community understand how to appropriately deal with future viral infections in long-term care, assisted living and retirement homes. In turn, this understanding will contribute to a greater awareness of the spread and impact of respiratory viruses such as COVID-19, in the community.

Social Benefits

We hope that by using study data we can understand which residents have some protective factors against COVID-19. Understanding their immunity will allow us to identify how we can socialize and interact with loved ones in a safe and healthy manner during the pandemic and future viral infection outbreaks.
